Off the Grid – THE MOVIE

Off the Grid is a documentary that follows the adventures of filmmaker Mark Matthews as he lives in the rural jungle of Maui and learns to manage life without the luxury of the power-grid or immediate access to telephone or Internet usage.  The film seeks to serve as an experiential exploration of what this sort of lifestyle means in terms of both practical and spiritual considerations and hopes ultimately to prove that “unplugging” from the power grid can be done in a cost efficient manner with little sacrifice of modern amenities.  Off the Grid operates from the point of view that energy solutions must be a personal journey and that in these ecologically difficult times that action must be taken on the individual level in order to have immediate change.  We cannot wait for governments to catch up with the crisis.  Until they do we all have a personal responsibility to create the change the earth needs.  Please watch our teaser below.  We are currently accepting donations to help with the completion of the project.  Any and all help you can offer would further the films mission to bring the concept of sustainability to a wider audience.  If you live on or will be visiting the Island of Maui and would like to help please contact us at offthegridmovie@gmail.com

I long for a time when our lives can be more simple. And yet, your movie is showing that life can be just that simple, even in paradise. can’t wait for the next installment. Great work!

Reconnecting with the land and remembering what it takes to obtain the necessities of life, unmitigated through a third party or a company, is definitely a worthwhile endeavor. Good luck!

Thanks for getting the word out there. We have been living comfortably off-grid for decades now, in a like-minded community. More people should try it.
